Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011

New Year's Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time. - James Agate...a resolution I can get behind!!!!!

I do not make resolutions...I know, I am a party pooper extraordinaire! But hey, if I do something, I might as well excel at it!!! ;) But, in an effort to do something to usher out 2010 and say hello to 2011, I would like to clean out my child's room....or rather the cave of toys where I happen to make him sleep. He has so many things that he does not play with! There is Thomas the Train® set (who he just HAD to have...we played with it maybe 3/4 times and it is in a bag in the back of the closet), the Weebles® Treehouse (once much loved but now not played with in forever), an unopened -- yes UNOPENED -- truck carry case with cars that is just sitting in the back of the closet (he has more cars than he can count so seriously I think we can downsize), a Black and Decker® tool table set thingy, and more. I don't know if he has just outgrown these things or what (and with the new DSi®...even more will be shoved to the back of the closet, trust me), but I have got to do something!!!! {yeah I walked in the closet to put the new clothes away and stubbed my toe, time to clean}. Not only that, but the old clothes are being taken out of that closet too!!!

So, by the end of February the cave will be cleaned out. Not sure what I am going to do with it all yet......its a good resolution and not one that will be broken LOL

Sounds like a great goal - maybe you could set up a toy rotation for him. I find if a toy is not getting much play, it's time to put it out of sight for a while and bring it out later. It's like a brand new toy when it comes back and others are put away for a time.

Pre-schools rotate toys every 2-3 weeks (leaving a few staple ones out) as well for this same reason.

Hmmm... we are going to the store to buy organization stuff tomorrow, so I think we have the same resolution! Happy New Year... I hope 2011 will be your best year yet!

We're getting a couple 3x3 "Closetmaid Cubeicals" (they sell them at target in various sizes) with some fabric drawers for the bottom row of cubbies. I've been waiting until now to buy because I know that every year after the holidays storage/organization stuff goes on sale for all of those people who have resolved to get organized. They're not too expensive, especially since they're on sale, and I think it's something that can grow with the child unlike a lot of toy organization things. It could be used for books or clothes or whatever after it's no longer needed for toys.

I think that I am going to give away a lot of things! I just dont want to give them to daycare, last time we had fits because "that's mine"...yep, not going there again.

We usually just donate whatever we don't want or need to Goodwill... it's the easiest way to dispose of unwanted items that are still in good condition. Whenever we're done with our baby stuff I'm going to donate it to a charity specifically for helping teen or single mothers... there are a few local options.

Yups! I did that this weekend - I couldn't handle the slow encroachment of the toy population into my every living inch. There's a box ready to go to Goodwill, and you bet your cute butt that Itty Bit will suddenly remember that he LOOOOVES those toys as soon as he realizes what's happened...

And the birch tree room at the Edgewater? It was the smaller banquet room at the end of the main restaurant. Oh my!!! I only saw it (then surreptitiously photographed it) because someone's toddler ran into it and I checked to make sure they were being watched.

That place is WAAAY cool! Happy New Year! And lets do coffee next time!
